Oilseals

ROTARY SHAFT OIL SEALS

Rotary shaft oil seals are used for sealing rotating machinery parts; they consist of a flexible rubber sealing lip, a stiff metal casing and a garter spring.

There are fundamentally three standard types:

TYPE-R21 (TYPE-CB)           Also known as TYPE-A or TYPE-WA

Rubber covered case.

This is the most common and versatile type. The rubber covered case provides effective protection against corrosion and offers good sealing round the housing.

TYPE-R4 (TYPE-BB)            Also known as TYPE-B or TYPE-WB

Metal Case.

Can enable easier fitting. However, this type demands closer tolerances in the housing bore to ensure an effective seal on the outer diameter.

TYPE-R6 (TYPE-DB)            Also known as TYPE-WC

Fully Metal Encased.

Basically as TYPE-R4 with a protective reinforcing cap, particularly good in rougher operating conditions as the sealing membrane is better protected.

All of the above types can be supplied with an additional dust lip providing extra protection against dirt and corrosion.

MATERIALS

The majority of oilseals are made using NITRILE rubber and mild sprung steel springs. The second most common material is VITON rubber and these come with stainless steel springs as standard. Other materials such as SILICONE and EPDM are available.

GRAPHITE-PTFE oilseals can be made to order (usually 1 week delivery)
